governance

What is Governance?

Riverside Drive Charter School has been granted a charter from LAUSD that provides us with the freedom and some funding to implement new and innovative programs at our school.

RDCS initially petitioned for Charter status in 2011, and we have to renew every 5 years. In spring 2022, we revised our Charter Petition and LAUSD renewed our charter status. The Charter Petition document outlines the approach to education and monitoring that RDCS will have over the next 5 years, and identifies new programs that will be rolled out during that time.

Our charter status requires us to have a Governing Council that is responsible for overseeing decisions related to spending of charter block grant funds and the rollout of new programs.

Governance Committees

The Governance Council has established advisory committees to help the Council operate more efficiently as it works towards achieving the goals outlined in our charter. These committees meet separately from the Governance Council and report their progress at the regular monthly Council meetings. All members of our school’s community are encouraged to attend committee meetings.

In committee meetings, all attendees are welcome to speak and vote on issues. There are no requirements to be a member of any of committee. Involvement in committees allows broader participation by giving all stakeholders the opportunity to contribute, research, and make recommendations to our School Council.

Standing committees generally meet monthly. Meetings are posted on the school calendar and announced in RDCS email blast.

Ad hoc committees are established when a specific issue requires a dedicated team to conduct research before a governance decision is made. Ad hoc committee meeting information will be posted on the school calendar and announced in RDCS email blast.

All meeting dates, times, and locations are subject to change based on other school events. Please be sure to check the school calendar before any meeting you plan to attend.

Our Charter committees need more involvement from all stakeholders (teachers/staff, parents and anyone invested in RDCS’ continued success) to see the changes that are necessary to make us the best school in the Valley! If you’d like to add your voice to the conversation by participating on one of these committee(s), please go to the volunteer tab or email us at: rdcspta@gmail.com
